Often we are with others, interacting we are much more focused on our own needs instead of listening, truly listening to what the other person is trying to convey.
Anyone who is a parent knows only too well what it is like trying to talk with a child 3-4 years old, or any age. They nod say yes or whatever but you know they haven't heard a word. It's so frustrating.
As we get older we get better at pretending to have listened, we make a thoughtful face but all the while just bursting to get out what we want to say. And sadly we also get better at pretending that we have been listened to. Sometimes it just helps to get it out there, get it off our chest but it is so much better if we know that the other person has actually listened to us. If we are not heard that starts to push down the self esteem and self value.
