Free Bolumbia or Better Yet, Bolumbia Lite!

I have been thinking a lot recently about Chris Anderson’s book and the load of bunk it is or is it?

Education

His thesis is basically that we are trained to free online and so free is what free does. Simpler, we are Pavlovian creatures that once trained cannot value content in different ways and at different pricepoints. The jury is certainly out on this, but it begs a question with regards to education and what it might look like in 3.0. I consider the 2.0 of education the Phoenix’s of the world, but just as we once laughed at Apex Tech commercials… Remember those? Let’s man up, Phoenix as a brand is still a joke. Cut to the chase, if you were in a neurologist’s office because you were suffering from vertigo and wanted to know whether you had 3 months to live or 50 years and you saw a diploma from U Phoenix, wouldn’t ya rather guess yourself than have this quack look at you?

Quitting can happen at any time! This is usually the time in which an addict will tell themselves that the drugs being taken are actually good. “These drugs aren’t any worse than what people buy at a pharmacy” the addict will say.

Education – Standardized Testing

Categories: Education | December 20th, 2011 | by admin | no comments

In an effort to improve education, especially in the United States, standardized testing has been instituted. But does it really work? This overview is not intended to answer the question of whether or not standardized testing works but to present both sides of the argument both for an against it.

The theory behind standardized testing is very simple. Every student is taught the same material in each subject so that a standardized test can be created and given to each of them. This will serve as a good barometer as to the student’s progress.

Are Student Loans Worth It?

Are Student Loans Worth It?

Graduating is a happy time-and then you realize you have to work the next 20 years to pay for your debt. There can only be so many scholarships available, and for the rest of the ‘normal’ population there is just no avoiding student loans. The best thing to do is to quantify before entering into this serious commitment: is it worth it?

First thing to consider, what school are you planning to go to? Is it a big name that has the specialties and programs that you’re looking for? Are you willing to pay more for name recognition? Dartmouth, Yale or the University of Columbia may bring better opportunities for your prospective field. Holding a degree from one of these universities certainly carries more weight than somebody who holds one from community college. Earning a degree from a good school may get you better opportunities, if you can afford it.
