Finding Inspiration For Your Wedding Songs

Choosing wedding songs can be an overwhelming task, especially when you consider how important music is to your wedding. You will need to choose songs for your ceremony, cocktail hour, wedding breakfast, first dance and your evening entertainment. Whilst much of this music can be a simple compilation of background music, there are some elements of your wedding that will require some rather more personal wedding songs to be chosen.

For many couples the first hurdle is where to look and find inspiration for their wedding songs. Your first dance song may already be decided as most couples will have a particular song that hold special meaning to them. However, for the other elements of your wedding day you will need to pay particular attention to songs that are appropriate to the occasion and which appeal to you both.

Your first step in finding inspiration can be to ask around family and friends. Everyone will have a particular taste in music and so can offer up some track names or album titles which could be worth considering. They may also have been to a wedding or similar occasion recently and can tell you the music that was played there; whether or not it is suitable to your wedding will be up to you to decide!

Your ceremony music will be dictated by the type of ceremony you will be having, for instance a civil wedding ceremony can have practically any type of music so long as it doesn't have any religious references. Music for a religious ceremony maybe confined to some carefully chosen wedding songs provided by the venue, although many places these days are open to other choices.

Your reception music is more important. It will set the tone for the rest of the day, create an atmosphere and hopefully get your guests dancing the night away! If you are hiring a DJ for your evening party then work them to put together a playlist of tracks which will appeal to everyone. Make sure the DJ you hire has experience of weddings and can keep the crowd entertained all night long!

Finally check out music libraries online, especially those that offer music ratings, full versions so you can listen to a particular song all the way through and as a bonus provides you with the lyrics to read. Music ratings for wedding songs is quite important as they give you the choice of songs that have been tried and tested at other peoples weddings, making them a natural choice for your day.

Ultimately the choice of wedding songs for your day should be a personal decision made by you both. Weddings are all about the personal style and taste of the couple getting married and wedding songs should be no different.
