Do You Have the Drive For Success?

More important to your success than your goals or your wishes for your efforts is your motivation. In fact, it's a great deal more important. After all, when you think about it, what you actually want from your life, where you end up, and what you get from your life are typically completely separate things. Your dreams change over time and your wishes are created and left behind. What you want out of life right now will be different from what you want at the end of the next season. On the other hand, though, your passion and drive in your life are what get you headed toward actually achieving your expectations. Equally, your expectations help to maintain that drive.

It really doesn't matter what your end goals are. If you want to be rich and famous, that's wonderful, but it doesn't mean that wishing is all you need to actually achieve it. Otherwise we'd all be rich and famous. The problem right now is that our expectations are becoming overwhelming. We build up such strong expectations, preparing ourselves to achieve a certain desired outcome. This causes us to behave differently based on what we expect to happen. It is as though our expectations become our crystal ball, telling us where the future will be. As we expect a certain occurrence, we become emotionally prepared for it – happy, sad, scared, etc. We also prepare physically, revving up or shutting down.

Then, if something actually happens as you thought it would, things change. When you were expecting something in the future, you got yourself ready, excited, you worked just that much harder and you kept your mind open to the various possibilities that could happen. On the other hand, if things happen poorly as you'd expected, you sink, sorrow, and despair.

So how do you control your expectations so that you can ensure that you always keep up that drive and stop from deflating when things may not look ideal? The trick is to get an understanding of your passions and then follow them. Remember, your passions are what motivate your expectations.

Therefore, if you're passionate about something, no matter what it is, it will help you to redirect your expectations so that your emotions and behaviors will follow suit. Work with your motivations and the true passions of your life and you will automatically guide yourself toward success.
