Public Speaking Secret – Create Your Own Notebook of Original Topics
If you want to learn a great public speaking secret that will improve your speaking abilities then this is something that you will find of great importance.
What you need to do is to buy yourself a small Notebook. Mine is A5 size (5.8 x 8.3 inches). Divide the book up into different sections. I have a Joke Section, an Events Section and a Interesting News Section. I have gone into further detail about these sections in the following paragraphs. Basically, what you will do is record anything that you hear, see or experience each day that is funny, unusual, or will at least make an interesting story to tell.
These records become a great resource of material to draw on for any public speaking that you may do. This could be useful for preparing your next speech or for simply creating a great topic of conversation when speaking to people. Including these in your speech will make it original, funny and interesting.
Joke Section
This could be a journal of funny jokes that you have heard but what I think is more useful, and natural, are the funny things that happen to you throughout a week. Perhaps, people that you work with or have met have said or done things that were funny. A great source of funny material comes from interacting and listening to children. If anything makes you laugh make a note of it in your notebook. You may never know when you will be able to refer back to it.
Events Section
Within this section you can keep a note of the unusual or whimsical things that happens to you within a week. Perhaps you have had an unusual encounter with someone or something odd happened to you on the way to the shops. Whatever it is could prove to be useful material later on.
Interesting News Section
If you read a newspaper, watch news on the TV or listen to it on the radio then I am sure you know that there are often stories that are a little more unusual than most. These stories are often there to provide a little light relief from the more serious stories. Make an entry in your notebook of any stories that you think are interesting. I'll give you an example of a news story I read some time ago. It was about a bank robber who approached the counter of the bank demanding money. The bank teller asked him to sit and wait and that his request would be dealt with when they were less busy. The robber sat down and was still there waiting when the police arrived to arrest him.
Start Your Notebook Today
I am sure that you experience unusual, funny and quirky situations everyday day but over time you forget them. By keeping a notebook you can maintain a record of these that will always be available to recall. By keeping a notebook you can refresh your memory of them and they will be there to draw from for your speech.
When you recall these topics you will be recalling them from memory. You won't have to read them or be trying to remember any punch lines. Instead they will be real events that happened to YOU. Funny, interesting and quirky stories that you tell in your own words that makes you appear natural when recalling them and that will help your speech be remembered as something special.
