Goal Setting Tips – Keys For Overcoming Procrastination And Taking Action

The people who succeed in life are those who take regular, consistent, targeted action. Plan to take at least one small step towards achieving your goals every day. If you have set a specific measurable goal you will find it easy to recognise markers along the way and will soon begin to see your progress.

“Between the great things we cannot do and the small things we will not do, the danger is that we shall do nothing.” Adolph Monod

If, like most people, you have a tendency to procrastinate, you need to get out of your own way and stop procrastinating. Stop putting things off, do them today and be prepared to do things that you don’t necessarily want to do.

“To think too long about doing a thing often becomes its undoing.” Eva Young

You’ll find it helps to break bigger steps into smaller manageable steps. Make the steps as small as you can, so that you have things you can complete quickly when you have a few moments.

The secret to getting things done is to start doing the most difficult things first. Once you get started you’re likely to finish and if you don’t manage to finish you will have at least have started.

The skill is to make the tasks small enough to do in just a few minutes. Make a phone call, write an e-mail, make some notes or do some research. Once you actually get started you’ll probably find that you do more than you planned.

“Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresea, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.” Life’s Little Instruction Book, compiled by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Take action – Take a small step towards achieving your goal every day. If you have crafted a detailed step-by-step plan you will always know what to do next. Set markers along the way so that you can see your progress. Take all the necessary actions, one step at a time and, if necessary, do it afraid.

Try it and see for yourself that regular, consistent, targeted action does enable you to achieve your goals.
